There were some initial concerns that this hike would be "too easy", as it was only a couple miles from where we parked the cars up to the lean-to.  It quickly became apparent that wasn't going to be the case.  It took us about 90 minutes to get to our destination, with a long steady uphill over rocky terrain most of the way.

Good!
We needed the challenge.

The big payout for our effort was getting to enjoy the West Kill Falls themselves.  We made it over here after having first set up most of our campsite at a lean-to (which had been freshly painted only the day before).

For the record, the water was really, really cold!  But, that didn't stop most of us from going in.

Back at the campsite, we busied ourselves with gathering firewood, and then making the evening meal (which was mostly dehydrated stuff of one sort or another... a first for many of the scouts).

And then we had a delightful surprise; a lone hiker on a 3 night trek decided to join our group for the evening.  In our many years of camping, I can't remember this ever happening before, and it could not have worked out better. Our new friend (Shannon) fit in wonderfully with everyone, playing along with our silly camp-side games, and even offering one up of her own that kept us stumped for a while.

As you might have guessed, the trip back down from the campsite took much less time than going up.

We started our day with a great breakfast of dehydrated eggs (and some leftover fruit and HoHos), then began the hike home.
